Drs. Zack Lewis and Anna Karls were named National Academies Education Fellows in the Life Sciences for the 2013-2014 academic year. The honor is based on their participation and contributions in the 2013 National Academies Southeast Summer Institute on Undergraduate Science Education which was held May 13-17, 2013 at UGA. Educators from 14 universities and colleges met at UGA for the summer institute for presentations, discussions and intensive group activities focusing on enhancement of undergraduate education. Active learning, assessment and diversity were major themes of the summer institute. Participants worked together in groups to develop "teachable tidbits' which they agreed to include in the courses they taught, and to assess the effectiveness of these learning units.
