Mark Jones and Julie Stoudenmire were recently recognized for their outstanding contributions to teaching. Mark, a graduate student in the lab of Eric Stabb, was awarded a 2015 Excellence in Teaching Award (ETA) from the UGA Center for Teaching and Learning. The award is made to teaching assistants who have demonstrated superior teaching skills and have contributed to teaching beyond their own responsibilities in the classroom. Mark was one of five teaching assistants to receive the ETA this year. Mark was recognized for his contributions in assisting Dr. Liz Ottesen in developing new laboratory modules for the Introductory Microbiology Laboratory course (MIBO 3510L). Mark also worked with Dr. Anna Karls to redesign the Graduate Seminar course (GRSC 7770), a course that prepares graduate students in the department for teaching.

Julie is also a graduate student in the lab of Eric Stabb and received a 2015 Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award. Julie has been a teaching assistant in several Microbiology courses where she routinely received excellent student and faculty evaluations. Julie also served as teaching assistant for the department's summer Research Experience for Undergraduates Site which is sponsored by the National Science Foundation. Julie is currently an instructor in MIBO 3500 (Introductory Microbiology).
