Mary Kelly (Ph.D. 1999 ) earned her B.S. at University College Dublin (Ireland) in 1994. After joining the Microbiology Graduate Program she started her dissertation research, entitled “Genetic and Biochemical Analysis of a Sigma Factor that Functions with Bacterial Enhancer-Binding Proteins”, in Tim Hoover’s laboratory.   Mary’s research resulted in three first-author articles in Journal of Bacteriology (1999, 2000, 2000) and a second-author publication in Molecular Microbiology (2004).  She also co-authored a review article with Tim for ASM News in 1999.  After finishing her Ph.D., Mary took a post-doctoral position with Dr. Geraldine Butler, in the Department of Biochemistry at the University College Dublin in Ireland.  In 2003 she became Programme Officer for the Science Foundation of Ireland.  Mary recently accepted the Director of Research Services position at the University of Canberra in Canberra, Australia.  Well done, mate!
