The USA Science & Engineering Festival was a huge success! Our exhibit “Living in a Microbial Zoo” had thousands of visitors, including many UGA alumni who said they were proud that we were there. The Festival organizers estimate that 500,000 people came to see the more than 500 exhibits on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. October 23 & 24, 2010. Many thanks to Anna Karls, Dave Samuels, Anne Summers, and Ashley Bono (Microbiology), Margie Lee and John Maurer (Population Health) and Russ Karls (Infectious Diseases), who volunteered their time and hard work to help develop and run the exhibit. Kelley Webb, a senior Science Illustration student at UGA, donated her time and talent to create a beautiful banner for our exhibit. Nancy Perkins, Christie Haynes, and Andrea Barnett managed the numerous accounts from UGA units that supported our effort: Office of the Provost, UGA Admissions Office, President’s Venture Fund, Office of the VP for Research, Office of STEM Education, and the Department of Microbiology.
