On March 4 & 5, 2019, Department of Microbiology graduate students, Taiwo Akinyemi, Chris Keggi, Olivia Thompson, Stacy Bedore, Katie Laramore, Coralis Rodriguez-Garcia, Emily McEntyre, and Macey Coppinger provided hands-on microbiology demonstrations on "The Power of Microbes" for ~560 9th graders from Cedar Shoals and Clarke Central High Schools who attended the Experience UGA 9th Grade Science Expo, which is organized by the UGA Office of Service-Learning.  Students learned how microbes are being used to generate energy, from cellulosic ethanol to living batteries. Dr. Anna Karls directed this outreach activity.
