My objective is to understand the adaptive evolution of protein structure and function.  My group recapitulates the evolutionary process in the laboratory, and identify the correlations between specific changes in tertiary structure and improvements in fitness.  Our best experiments are designed to fill gaps in the Darwinian paradigm.  Other experiments produce molecules with enhanced industrial or pharmaceutical utility.  In this seminar, I will share the tools that we have developed and the lessons about evolution that we have learned.
