Every semester, the UGA Microbiology department recruits undergraduate students to assist faculty members in encouraging student participation and active learning approaches in classrooms, which has shown great benefits to the UGA teaching and learning community. The department of microbiology has three opportunities for undergraduates to gain experience as a lecture or lab peer learning assistant (PLA): 1) Microbiology Undergraduate Lab Assistants (MULA): paid $11.75/hour for assisting in our teaching laboratories, involving 4-10 hours of work a week (depending on how many sections you work in) 2) Microbiology Unit-PLAs for lecture courses: paid $11.75/hour to assist in lecture sections of MIBO3500 or MIBO2500, involving 5 hours of work a week. 3) Microbiology Volunteer Peer-Assistant (MVP): volunteers that help facilitate 3-5 group work days per semester for microbiology lecture courses (MIBO2500 and/or MIBO3500). This includes around 9-15 total volunteer hours throughout the semester.
