INCOMING TRANSFER STUDENTS The Franklin College Office of Transfer Academic Services (OTAS) recognizes and values transfer students as an integral part of the UGA student body. Transfer students make up approximately 20% of the nearly 13,000 Franklin College undergraduates. Microbes are some of our biggest foes with infectious disease, yet are also our closest companions, with their presence on our skin and mucous membranes. They are the engines that drive the biosphere and shape our climate. Our department encompasses scientists studying a broad range of fields, including Microbial Physiology, Molecular Microbiology, Genetics, Genomics, Symbiosis, Pathogenesis, Biotechnology, Computational Biology, and Ecology. Graduates of our program go on to jobs in a wide variety of fields, including health care, public health, science policy, food safety, pharmaceuticals, industrial microbiology, and scientific research at academic and government institutions. Resources to Succeed Chemistry Requirements for Transfer Students For any Biological Science major at UGA, Chemistry is a foundational sequence of courses that determine the general graduation timeline of a student. This functions as a prerequisite for many Biological Science major courses. CHEM 2211/2211L is a prerequisite for MIBO 3500 (Introduction to Microbiology), making it critical for the MIBO major. See more details on the Chemistry transfer process. Please note, it is strongly recommended that students complete a Chemistry sequence (ex. General Chemistry 1 with lab and General Chemistry 2 with lab) at one institution, rather than splitting sequences. The Microbiology department DOES NOT evaluate non-equivalent Chemistry credit; you must consult the CHEM department. Course Recommendation Want to have a class with other transfer students? Register for UNIV 2302/S/E: Success for Transfer Students. In this class, students will develop the necessary skills to be successful as an active learner within a variety of instructional modalities. Students will embrace collaborative learning assignments and study groups while reflecting on their own progress and strategies.
