Overview Presentation

Omega Psi Phi, Inc. sponsored a STEM college tour for 40 high school students from metro Atlanta on Monday, July 14, 2025. They came to Cedar Street Building C for a fun morning learning about the Department of Microbiology and seeing the different labs. Dr. Jennifer Walker presented an overview about the department and answered many great questions the students had.

The students then split into groups to tour different labs. Dr. Xiaorong Lin took students through her lab and showed them many pieces of equipment and explained how she uses them. Dr. Elizabeth Ottesen took another group of students through her lab and showed them her cockroach room.

Students also participated in a fun Kahoot with Dr. Jennifer Walker where they were able to win Microbiology merch to help them remember how great their experience was.

The tour concluded in one of the lecture halls in Cedar Street Building C. The students were able to hear from Microbiology graduate students, Emma Blackburn and Nhu Pham, and ask them excellent questions about their experiences and how they got to be students at UGA.
