Image: Kudos to the eight UGA Microbiology undergraduates elected to Phi Beta Kappa this semester! Phi Beta Kappa is the nation’s oldest and most widely-known academic honorary society. Founded on December 5, 1776, at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, Phi Beta Kappa recognizes students who have made outstanding intellectual achievements in the arts and sciences at America’s leading colleges and universities. In addition, the Society sponsors activities to advance studies in humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. UGA Microbiology students who were elected to Phi Beta Kappa this year were Eric Anderson (Duluth, GA), Hope Arnold (Baton Rouge, LA), Ricky Doshi (Calhoun, GA), Courtney Ellison (Dacula, GA), Abid Fazal (Athens, GA), Megan Iwan (Lawrenceville, GA), Lily Kim (Savannah, GA) and Mark Rolfsen (Baton Rouge, LA). The Phi Beta Kappa induction ceremony was held in the UGA Chapel on Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Hope Arnold, Mark Rolfsen, Courtney Ellison (pictured together above), Abid Fazal (pictured above to the right) and Lily Kim (pictured above to the left) were in attendance at the induction ceremony.
