Ten UGA Microbiology students were elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Society during the Spring 2014 semester. Phi Beta Kappa is the nation’s oldest and most widely-known academic honorary society.

Drs. Zack Lewis and Anna Karls were named National Academies Education Fellows in the Life Sciences for the 2013-2014 academic year.

UGA Microbiology graduate student Hannah Bullock was selected as one of five recipients for the inaugural  Franklin College-University of Liverpool Doctoral Student Short Term International Research Fellowship.

The Microbiology Department was pleased to host a two-day workshop on comparative genomics taught by Prof. Valerie de Crecy-Lagard and assisted by Dr. Jennifer Thiaville, from the University of Florida (Department of Microbiology and Cell Science).

The American Society for Microbiology (ASM) selected Maliha Ishaq as a 2013 recipient of the ASM Undergraduate Research Fellowship. The ASM fellowships are targeted for highly competitive students who plan to pursue graduate studies in microbiology.
